When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

Here are the ukulele chords in the key of G.  I originally wrote this song out in the key of C; so, the notes you see are in the key of C and will not work if you play the chords written.  I was asked to change it to a lower key by my Community Singers. I recorded it with ukulele in G.  Click here to listen. To see the chords for the key of C click here.  I recommend singing it in G for adults.  I like it in C for kids so that all of the notes are in their range.  It is also easy to play on recorders in C.

play alongs and tuning

Wow!  We covered a lot today.  As promised, here are some songs that you can play and sing along on.  There are several songs here that we didn't do, but you can figure out the new chords.  "Mairzy Doats" has some really cool chords and the first line is actually pretty easy.

"Clementine"
"Stewball"
"You Are My Sunshine"
"Down in the Valley"
"Mele Kalikimaka"
"Mairzy Doats"

Here is the link  to the tuning website.  I tune by singing "My dog has fleas", but that only works if you know the tune.

Next week we will learn how to transpose any song into a ukulele friendly key.  Let me know if there is a particular song that you would like to learn and we can use it as a example as we are learning.  Have fun with your ukulele this week.

Jan. 15th

Great class today! You may be feeling a little overwhelmed with so much information crammed into such a short time.  Don't worry.  It will get easier with practice.  A little practice each day is more effective than a long practice once a week.  Find a place that you can leave your ukulele and book out so that you can pick it up anytime you have a few minutes to spare.  When I was a kid, we kept the ukulele on top of the piano.

Here are recordings of some of the songs if you'd like to sing and play along and a link to help you tune your ukulele.  Don't forget, "My Dog Has Fleas".

"Clementine"
"Stewball"
"You Are My Sunshine"
